Science Day 2027

Challenges in Forest Research

The SFL is pleased to inform you that on 05 February 2027 our SwissForestLab ScienceDay will take place at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL. We will meet at:

Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL

Zürcherstrasse 111

8903 Birmensdorf ZH

Room: Engler-/Flurysaal

Under this year’s theme, we will explore what makes understanding forests and their responses to environmental change so challenging across disciplines and scales. How can we disentangle underlying processes, scale our understanding from organs and individual trees to ecosystems and landscapes, or bridge the gap between controlled experiments and the complexity of real-world conditions? Addressing these challenges increasingly requires us to cross disciplinary boundaries, bringing together different perspectives, methods, and technologies. The Science Day will explore the conceptual, methodological and practical challenges we face in advancing our understanding of forests, and the opportunities that interdisciplinary approaches offer to address them.

The SFL ScienceDay is designed to be a platform for young scientists (PhD students and PostDocs) to present and discuss their research within the SwissForestLab network. Additionally, it is a good chance for the members to exchange and network within the SFL community.

As every year, you will have the opportunity to enter your contribution (poster or talk) in a competition where the two most outstanding contributions will be published in the «SwissJurnal of Forestry (SZF)».
